Delhi University has officially stated that entrance tests for admissions will not be implemented in the near future. Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh explained that this decision aligns with federal and UGC regulations. The university will continue to base admissions on Class 12 board exam results, ensuring fairness and transparency in the process. This approach aims to reduce the burden on students and streamline admissions, making it more accessible for all candidates.

Current Admission Process To Continue
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the earlier admissions, which were based on the performance of students in their Class 12 board exams, would remain unchanged. A merit-based policy of this nature has always been judged proper and efficient because everyone gets an equal opportunity to get admitted based on their academic merit. Continuing this approach, DU hopes to offer a hassle-free admission process to the parents and students on one hand while carrying on its admission processes with continuity and stability on the other.
Reasons Behind The Decision
Not holding the tests for admission was for a number of imperative reasons.
• To Reduce Student Stress: The varsity would not like their final-year students to carry the luggage of stress with them.
• Logistical issues: The extra-technological and administrative logistic problems for conducting entrance tests demand considerable resource utilization.
Additionally, this admission system will benefit current students' performance due to the fact that students will not have to prepare for various examinations but rather focus on their current learning.
In terms of access to higher education, DU seeks to ease life and create a more enabling environment for all learners.
Feedback From Stakeholders
The decision has received widespread approval from the academic community, parents, and students alike. Many view this merit-based admission policy as open, fair, and transparent, providing all candidates with an equal opportunity. There’s a consensus that this approach will make the admissions process more accessible and less stressful. In an interview with The Indian Express, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh stated, "This year’s session will begin around August 15 or 16, provided the CUET results are released by July 25." He also noted that this year’s DUSU elections will be postponed since they cannot take place without first-year students on campus.
Future Plans & Updates
Though DU has decided not to hold entrance tests for now, it has kept the varsity open for reviewing and revising the admission process. The Vice Chancellor promised that well in advance notice would be given to students so it might not cause any hassle for them. The college is committed to the periodic review of its admission practices for necessary revisions in order to achieve greater equity and efficiency. We would like to make the following information available in an effort to prepare and inform families and students in a proactive manner about the changes that may result.
Upcoming Academic Session
The university had announced that classes would begin from August 1. Vice-Chancellor Singh further said the session would now begin on August 15 or 16 if the CUET results are declared by July 25. With this, the DUSU elections, which are normally held in September, would also get postponed as they cannot be held without first-year students being on campus. This revised schedule is purposed to ensure that all students will be availed with equal opportunity to participate in the academic and election processes effectively.
Special Academic Council Meeting
Finally, the Delhi government has summoned a special meeting of the Academic Council regarding the state of affairs pertaining to the twelve DU colleges that the government funds. This is sequel to the request during the previous session of the Academic Council for having a separate discussion regarding the future of these colleges. Reviewing their existing state and planning regarding their funding and operations in future will be the top agendas.
Conclusion
So, the conclusion is that from now on there will be no CUET (Common University Entrance Test), instead the previous merit-based system based on the percentage of 12th standard will continue. And this decision was taken for the welfare of students so that the students don't have to take so much stress for their entrance and admission in DU.
