Coming to Delhi University means not only listening to the lectures; it is all about encompassing the atmosphere. Outside you can discover numerous cafes, calm and beautiful parks, and other historical sites that do not let you stay focused on your learning process. These places will be your favourite go-to areas as you try to relax, eat, or just wander around as you go through college life.
Hello, Students!
For the record, Delhi University is a campus all by itself, but DU is indeed beautiful and even more so when you look around it. Whether you are someone who likes to explore the culinary delights of a new city, you’re interested in history or simply tired of all the studying you are doing these days- the surroundings of DU is perfect for you. To a stroll through some of the most ideal places that you would wish to spend some time, enjoy a site see and interact with fellow travellers, here are some places to visit.
Table Of Contents:-
1. Kamla Nagar Market
The Hub for Every DU Student When you approach any student from DU and ask them where do they hangout after a hectic day, I bet most of them will point towards Kamla Nagar. This is a famous market that offers a collection of street foods, fashion, and clothes, stylish restaurants and other physical commodities at a low price. It’s like wherever I am in the mood for – some chaat, some Chinese, or just a coffee I can get it at Kamla Nagar.
Must Try: Chache Di Hatti for chole bhature. Large cheese pasta and a rather unique interior at the Big Yellow Door (BYD).
Pro Tip: Opt for the evening time when tourists can visit Kamla Nagar and see the real energies of the people selling their products and services in the markets.
2. Hudson Lane
Where Cafés Meet Chill Vibes Located merely 200 meters from North Campus, Hudson Lane is a popular student- hub for a nice café, a relaxed dinner with friends. These eateries are some of the most modern and chic eating places, which range from continental to Asian food yet all fall within the student pocket.
Popular Spots:
Echoes: A speciality café where all employees are hearing-impaired and the interior is decorated in an eccentric way and the prices for the meals are low.
Cafeteria & Co.: Can be deemed as good enough for a simple buddy trip over burgers, waffles, and milkshakes.
“He who dies with the most toys wins.”
3. Majnu Ka Tilla
Little Tibet in Delhi But if you want something different, just wait and pay a visit to Majnu ka Tilla or the little Tibet in Delhi. This happening area brings a taste of Tibet to Long Island, with charming bistros, Tibetan arts and crafts stores, and, of course, steamed dumplings. It’s quite an unconventional place to spend an afternoon eating Tibetan food, learning about their history and culture or shopping for accessories.
Must Try:
Rigo’s: An eatery with a resemblance to traditional tea houses of Tibet and specialising in Tibetan delicacies such as thukpa and shapta.
Ama Café: It is famous for desserts, and the quiet environment – ideal for reading, doing homework, etc.
Pro Tip: Come in the morning also for a quiet breakfast and take a walk at the river side in the morning.
4. Civil Lines: Peaceful, Serene And Surrounded By Greenery
When the noise and craziness of campus life happens to become overwhelming, there is a place called Civil Lines which is less than a metro ride away. This area is also pleasant for those who would like to spend a quiet afternoon since it is interspersed with colonial style buildings and shaded avenues. A few of the lovely treasures will include a number of charming coffee places as well as a variety of areas one can sit down with a book or simply walk about.
Famous Coffee Houses:
The Tea Lounge: A pleasant tea café with old world charm.
Cha Bar: A teashop inside a bookshop combining books and teas. “At times, however, it’s the most unproductive thing that one would do at all that you can do, which is, actually you would take a break.”
5. Vijay Nagar: The Land Of Students
This is also another well known spot where the students of DU hang out, especially PG students residing nearby. This area is always full of crowd because it is known for this atmosphere as well as for reasonably priced food outlets. In fact, if you want to grab a quick bite or if you want to hang out after hard exam in celebration then Vijay Nagar is the answer.
Too Good to Miss Out On:
QD’s: This is a student’s paradise famous for its tandoori momos. If you want to enjoy the lovely views of the location, it is advisable to go there around sunset. After that, you’ll want to get an ice cream from the vendors there.
Wood Box Café: Known for its cozy interiors and satisfying comfort food.
6. India Gate
For Late Night Hangouts and Quiet Walks While it may not be just around the India Gate corner, the trip is worth it especially at night to serve as a hotspot for evening hangouts. Whether you decide to walk at the monument by night with amigos or curl up in an uptown shopping mall dining place basking in a scoop of luscious ice cream, it would take you a lot of discipline to not miss out on the great atmosphere there. Unlike a typical Gold Coast night experience, it is relatively calm, and the ambience in the nighttime is perfect for winding down while taking in the illumination framed by the beautiful scenery.
Handy Hint: Go at sunset for the most spectacular scenery, and get an ice cream from one of the many street venders.
7. Connaught Place
The Heart of Delhi If you’re in the mood to go clubbing and are up for an adventurous outing, you should head over to Connaught Place or CP. It’s a colonial-era structure in the Central Business District of New Delhi, but folks come here not just for the amazing street art and night-life, but also because CP is one of the student’s favourite spots for a weekend. Be it endlessly shopping, checking out art on the streets, or grabbing dinner in one of the beautifully decorated restaurants in CP, you can find it all.
Popular Spots
The Junkyard Café: A creatively designed café offering a variety of cuisines.
Khan Chacha: Famous for its delicious kebabs and rolls.
8. Lodhi Garden
Nature’s Refuge in the Heart of the City The serenaded garden right at the center of New Delhi, and lodged well within the urban hullabaloo, is actually a rather more recent development in terms of the city’s historical timeline having been put together during 1930s and named after British India’s last governor before independence. Spanning across 90acres of lush lawns and trees splotched with small medieval architectural monuments and tombs it makes for a truly tranquil place to retreat from the humdrum of city life.
So you can see why I kind of find it strange to refer to it as “historic.” When you need some peace away from the city madness, Lodhi Garden is one of the best places to visit in Delhi. It is an amazing picnic spot which houses some of the most beautiful historical monuments too. It is a hot favorite among the joggers, photographers and couples who come here for jogging, photography or just to rejuvenate in the lap of nature.
Pro Tip: You may want to bring a book and spend afternoon in nature or discover the tombs dated back to 15th century that are found in the park.
9. Dilli Haat
A Cultural Feast For students who are culture enthusiasts and love to taste different food, Dilli Haat is the place to be. An open market with handicrafts, fabric and food stalls from different states in India. If you are a food lover or shopaholic Dilli Haat will leave you mesmerized with its lively colors and cultural richness.
Must Try: The food stalls which represents the amazing cuisines from different states of India. Shop for traditional Indian handicrafts and souvenirs.
10. Jantar Mantar
A Blend of Science and Heritage If you like to know history and visit different kind of places Jantar Mantar is a nice place to visit. A mixture of Science and Architecture. Good for students who loves history, or want to go out in peace far from crowd. Here is a pro tip; Spend a little time to learn about the background history of the structures- it will make your visit entirely different.
Conclusion
Delhi University isn’t about just classes and exams, it is about exploring the city around. The hangout spots near DU provide an opportunity for students to relax, have fun, know and build memories outside college as well. Final Quote: We do not measure “Life” by breathing, we measure “Life” by sensational moments which take our breath away. And trust me on this, the moments that you make in these hangout spots will be the one that you’ll cherish for the rest of your lives.
