Table Of Contents:-
Introduction
It was established in the year 1992, through the Central Legislative Assembly Act, and one of India's most sought-after institutions. Apart from numerous students coming in from a sizeable part of the Indian sub-continent, the University receives applications from foreign nationals hailing from countries such as Tibet, China, Bangladesh, and other African countries.
Student Life
Student life is characterised by diverse cultures and rich heritage at colleges that have an array of student organizations and clubs. Finally, after giving up sleeping, doing endless mock tests and cancelling trips, it is high time to finally relax in Delhi University where you got a seat after all.
Orientation Day
All of you will undergo a similar first day of college. Orientation Day will bring you to the college surroundings. Teachers and seniors would talk to you. You will get to know your course and have plenty of time to clear all doubts and interact with your peers. The next exciting part would be a campus tour led by your seniors, showing you the best photogenic spots, the auditorium, the canteen, and the grounds.
This tour will not end there; your seniors will share information about the most popular restaurants and cafes nearby. They will share their experiences as both freshmen and seniors, giving you a glimpse of what your next three years will be like.
Making Connections
Now, there is the "Break-the-Ice" session. Do not freak out; nobody is going to judge you. You are surrounded by your peers and seniors, so do not be afraid to introduce yourself. Everybody is in the same boat, and if not everybody, then most of the people are. Use this as an opportunity to get some people talking and to make some friends.
Ensure you get added to both formal and informal college groups for college updates. Don't lag behind in joining; your trip to Goa might just be sparked from your informal group!
College Societies And Subject Choices
Then in store for you will be a comprehensive introduction to the college societies. The university is great on both academics and co-curricular activities, done with the spirit and diversity of its societies. It's through the societies in your college that you would experience your own orientation in society, which would teach you which one best matches up with your interests and abilities.
Now is the time to choose your other subjects, which are GE (Generic Elective), VAC (Vocational), SEC (Skill Enhancement Course), and AECC (Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course). Ask your seniors to get you the list of subjects and wisely choose what you want to study with your core subjects.
Preparation Tips
Prepare an outfit and all accessories beforehand because you would not wish that something is off in the morning when leaving for campus to attend university. Do not be a closet fashion icon; let your personal sense of style be visible when on campus. Delhi University welcomes every style; in fact, there will never be a dress code; just wear what you fancy—shorts, mini skirts, crop tops bralettes, ripped jeans or jorts, whatever is awesome for you.
Keep a backup change ready a day in advance. Just personal advice: do not carry heels because you will roam around the campus, and heels do hurt sometimes. Carry a pair of sneakers or juttis instead. Also, don't forget to carry your admission form, clear folder, pen, and your toiletry kit, of course!
Don't frown at this-although you might not need something, it is always great to cover all your backs for such events.
Building Friendships
Make new friends instead of being confined to a chosen few. Explore and become part of various groups in regard to your subjects and societies. Get a good night's sleep because you would not want to report late for your first day in college. Reporting on time will give you sufficient time to take pictures to make a reel for Instagram as well!
Food And Campus Life
If you do not want to have a home-cooked meal, it is perfectly fine to try the food from the canteen, which is sure to become your savior during the next three years.
Many of Delhi University's campuses are home to many little furry friends. And if you love pets, especially dog-lovers, it would feel heavenly there. Take some time, make some furry friends and enjoy their company. And don't worry; the experience that I have shows me that most of these creatures are friendly and they are not going to try biting you.
If you're a bookworm, don't leave the library. That's also one of your comfortable seats when classes are cancelled and you just feel like relaxing quietly.
Conclusion
Delhi University Orientation Day can be put in a nutshell as being a day more than just an introduction - a point of departure into a journey of growth and discovery replete with memories that are unforgettable. It is this one day where freshers start on the right track, building networks about finding societies according to their passions or understanding how best to make an academic choice.
The knowledge and advice only ease the transition but also help build the foundations of relationships and memories that make college worthwhile. Approach every endeavor with a positive attitude and inquiring nature about the experience because it is the beginning of another great phase of one's life. It's going to be smooth. Cheers!
